Special Parents Meeting:  A parent meeting will be held on May 10 at 7 PM to get input on parent's plans for their students next school year.  The school board will be meeting on May 16 to decide the plan for next year.  A letter will be sent to the parents after this decision is made.

Envirothon Team Advances to State Competition: The BCS Envirothon team qualified for the state finals competition again this year. The team placed third at regionals in spite of strong competition.  They improved their score by 9 points over last year.  This year's score would have won last year's regional competition.  The state competition involved a two-day trip because it was held in Vincennes, IN.  Eighteen teams qualified for the competition and the BCS squad placed tenth.  Congratulation, team!

Mission Trip: The Juniors and Seniors will be leave at 12:30 on May 5 for a mission trip to Savannah, Georgia.  They will be involved in various missions projects while there and return on May 16.

Chapel: The last chapel of the year will be at 2:45 on May 19.  Dick Labert will be sharing with us..  Parents are welcome.

School Picnic: An all school picnic will be held at Lions Park on May 24 from 11:15 to 3:00.  Parents are encouraged to join the students to eat and/or play softball.

Teacher Appreciation Day: Our teachers have worked hard this year and it would be nice to honor them with a basket of goodies on Teacher Appreciation Day, May 20th.  You may bring candy, snacks, gift certificates, books, etc. to the school through May 19 to be added to the basket.

Graduation: BCS will have five seniors graduating this year.  The graduation ceremony will be held at 7 PM on May 27 at Community Christian Church next to the school.  Join us to honor out graduates: Caleb Ziminsky, Alina Shepherd, Steven Fisher, Moriah Coffield, and Micah Arnold.

Envirothon Team Preparing for Regional Competition: BCS is entering a team in the regional Envirothon competition for the second straight year. The team is made up of Micah Arnold, Steven Fisher, and Caleb Ziminski, Alexus Morrow, and Casey Ziminski.  Alternates are Russell Ainslie and Ashley Eckelbarger. These students have been studying and preparing their presentation for the competition on March 10th in Albion.  Last year's team finished third at regional and qualified for the state competition.  This year's team has a goal of placing higher.  Good luck, team!.

New Students: Four more new students joined our student population in the past month.  Darren Schmidt is in the sixth grade and transferred to BCS from Norwell middle school.  Dalton Heron is a seventh grader and Aaliyah Valentin and Dominique Humphrey joined our eighth graders,  They all transferred from Bluffton Middle School.  Our enrollment now stands at 21 students.

Spring Concert: Our spring concert will be held at the Christian New Light Church on April 19th.  Join the choir for this concert and stay afterwards for snacks and fellowship with students and parents.

Spring Break:  Spring break 2011 will be from March 21-25.  Friday, March 18, will be a half day.  Enjoy your time off, students, and come back prepared to finish the year strong.

School Board News: The board met with Cindy Robbins to discuss other classes and services BCS can provide to home schooled students.  Parents will be contacted in April to determine what students will be returning in the fall.  Then, a parent meeting will be scheduled in May to discuss parent's intentions regarding the next school year.  The board will decide the future of the school in May.

January/February 2011 Newsletter

Labor Auction for Mission Trip: A number BCS students made themselves available to be auctioned to family and friend who need work done.  These juniors and seniors will be heading to Savannah, Georgia, in May for a school missions trip and the proceeds from this auction will be used to fund the trip.  In all $850 was raised.  If you would be interested in supporting the mission project, please contact Mr. Lynch at the school.

New Students: Logan Crandall and Blade Armstrong transferred to BCS from Norwell middle school in February.  Logan is in the eighth grade and Blade is in the seventh. Our enrollment now stands at 17 students.

Fundraiser News: The candy bar fundraiser is nearing completion.  Once all of the candy is sold the school will net $1250.

Financially speaking: God continues to bless the school's financial needs.  All current bills have been paid and the staff was paid for January.  Winter bills are higher than other times, especially with the cold winter we are having, and funds will be tight for the remainder of the year.  Please be in prayer for our finances and praise God for his faithfulness.

Chapel: The February chapel is scheduled for the 11th at 2:45.  Mrs. Marilyn Gallaway will talk about our response when bad things happen in our lives.  Mrs. Gallaway's husband became a quadriplegic 10 years ago and passed away two years ago.  She will discuss the questions we ask when things don't go our way.  Parents and visitors are welcome.

Spring Break: Spring break will start wit a half-day on Friday, March 18 and continue through the week of March 21 - 25.  We will return on Monday, March 28.

New Computers: Thanks to Don Newton for donating computers to our school.

December 2010 Newsletter

Operation Christmas Child: BCS students filled seven shoe boxes with small gifts to send to needy children around the world.  These boxes will be distributed through the Samaritan's Purse organization. Thanks to everyone who assisted with or contributed to this project.  Special thanks to Mrs. Fisher who has spearheaded this ministry for the past several years.

Fundraiser Awards: Three students received a lava lamp for their promotion of the pancake/sausage breakfast fundraiser.  These students were Steven Fisher, Caleb Ziminsky, and Micah Arnold.

Financially speaking: God continues to meet the school's financial needs through small and large donations.  An anonymous donor recently gave the school a generous $1000 gift.  Other individuals and families contribute faithfully on a regular basis.  We praise God for His goodness to our school.

New Students: Destinee Burlette and Ashley Elsten recently joined our student body.  That brings our enrollment to 15 students.

Chapel: The December chapel is scheduled for the 17th at 2:45 with Scott Moser.  Scott is the youth director at Markle Church of Christ.

Christmas break: This year's Christmas break is scheduled for December 22 through January 4.

Fundraiser Update: Over $600 was raised at the pancake/sausage breakfast on October 9th.  Thanks to all who attended.  Students are now selling boxes of the World's Finest Chocolate.  Ask a business you know to display a box for a student.

Fall Concert: The fall concert was help on November 4 at the Christian New Light Church.  Great job, choir and Mrs. Alspaugh.  Thank you to everyone who came out to support the studetns.

Operation Christmas Child: BCS students will have a school party and shopping day to fill shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child on November 9 from 3:15 to 5:00.  Mrs. Fisher will be coordinating the distribution of the filled boxes.

Bulletin Inserts: Here's an easy way to promote our school.  Would you check with your pastor to see if he is open to having a bulleting insert about our school?  The school will provide the necessary number of inserts.

Financial Update: The school continues to pay its bills and staff on time.  We praise the Lord to be able to be a positive witness in our community.  It is also a tribute to our parents and others who continue t give generously so that we can provide a Christian education for our students.

October 2010 Newsletter

Open House/Fundraiser: Treat yourself to a great breakfast on Saturday morning, October 9, from 7 to 11 AM.  The school is kicking off the school year with a pancake and sausage breakfast.  A free will donation will be accepted at the door.  In addition to the meal the we are hosting an Open House to view the remodeling that has been done.  The Open House will run from 8 AM to noon.

Morning Assembly: BCS students gather together each morning to recite pledges to the Christian and American flags, to pray, hear a devotion, and be informed about what is happening at the school,  Each high school student, along with the teachers, share teh responsibility of giving the devotion.

Street Fair Parade: The school has not participated in the Bluffton Street Fair opening parade for several years.  Two of our seniors, Alina Shepherd and Moriah Coffield, wanted to change that and approached the teachers about having a school float in the parade.  Along with Mr. Lynch, these two young ladies provided the leadership and other students helped with the labor to make our parade float a reality.

Something New for School Lunches: Every Friday (when something isn't planned), the Jr./Sr. class will be cooking hamburgers, hot dogs, and brats on the grill.  Cost is $1 for hamburgers and brats and $.50 for hot dogs.  Pop is also available for $.50.

School Picnic: Students and family are invited to the school picnic at Lions Park from 12:490 to 3:30 PM.  Bring a bat and ball for a softball game!

School Board Meeting Highlights: 1) A fundraiser involving chocolate candy bars will start later in October 2) The student handbook is still being revised 3) Discussions on promoting the school are ongoing.  Ideas are welcome.  4) The new school website was presented to the board. 5) Meeting with home-school parents was discussed.

Envirothon Team: Pastor Ainslie has recruited students to form a team for the Envirothon competition again this year. The students study aspects of the environment in preparation for a regional competition next March.  Last eyars team placed third at regional and advanced to the state competition.

September 2010 Newsletter

New Students: Welcome Peter Hurraw and Matt White, new students for 2010.  We are still acepting students in grades 6-12.

Calendar Update:  There will be no school on Labor Day, September 6th.  School will dismiss at noon on Friday, September 24th due to the Bluffton Street Fair.

Bad Weather Notifications: Check channel 21 news or radio stations WNUY (100.1) or WBCL (90.3) for fog or snow delays updates.  Two hour delay days will begin at 10:00 AM.

Financial Update: The school ended the fiscal year (2009-2010) with almost $1000 in our checking account. All bills and staff were paid in a timely fashion throughout the last school year.

Volunteers Critical to the Success of Our School: Bluffton Christian School has been blessed with several dedicated individuals who serve as volunteers. They are identified on the "Our Staff" page.  Again this school year, these volunteers add a special dimension to the ministry of Christian Education.  Without them, the school would not exist.  We praise the Lord for their service to this ministry.

Items We Could Use: These items include copier paper, Kleenex, paper towels, and Clorox Handiwipes.  If you would like to donate, you can call the office and Mrs. Clark will provide you with an updated list of the items we need.

Chemistry Class for Home Schoolers: There are three hoe school students who are taking a chemistry class from Pastor Neil Ainslie.  The class meets after school on Tuesday and Thursday for the entire year.

Summary of the Last School Board Meeting: The school board meets once a month on the second Monday evening at 7:00 pm at the school.  You are welcome to attend these meetings. Highlights of the August meeting: (1) We are updating the student handbook, (2) Time was spent discussing the need to market the school, (3) A decision will be made next May regarding the future of the school, and (4) the school calendar was adopted.

Fundraiser Update: Our very first fundraiser of the school year will be a breakfast to kick off our second season of ministry.  It is scheduled on a Saturday morning in October.  There is a possibility of an open house for the entire building that day.  Please put October 9th on your calendar.  We are also planning on selling candy bars again this fall as well.

Chapel Speakers: Our focus this school year is to invite lay people to share with our students what it means to walk with the Lord on a daily basis.  We have chapel once a month at the end of day on Friday.  If you know of Christians who would be an inspiration to our students, please call the office.  You are certainly welcome to attend any of our chapel services.

September chapel: Chapel is scheduled for Friday, September 3rd, at 2:45 PM.  Rose Bryan, Geneva Librarian, will be the speaker. Parents are welcome.

Box Tops: Continue to clip and save box tops for our school.
